Ursprünglich wurde der Verlag 2007 von Anke Feuchtenberger und Stefano Ricci gegründet, um Comic- und Animationsprojekte von Studierenden unterschiedlicher europäischer Hochschulen sichtbar zu machen und auch um eigenen Buchexperimente zu realisieren.
seit 2020 wird der MamiVerlag von Julia Hoße und Magdalena Kaszuba geführt. Beide sind ebenfalls Comiczeichnerinnen und wollen die Ideale des ursprünglichen Verlags wach halten:
